A Writing Tip for When you Feel Like a Literary Potato

We can’t spend all our time writing alone. We spend too much time in our own heads as it is. You writing will drastically improve if you join your local writing group. Writing groups help you balance the internal struggle of dreaming to be a writer while feeling like a literary potato. In other words, they help you realize that you are the left hand who is so adorable and really does try, but you’re also the right hand who will create something epic. You can and are and will be both hands at different times of your writing, but the important part is that you continue to put your hands together and make that writing happen. See yourself as a literary potato and you will be encouraged when you’re feeling literary, and you won’t be stuck when you’re feeling like a potato.

Your writing IS sexy and suave and magical and oh-so-clever even when you read works by your favorite authors and you cry because you will never write something as heart-achingly perfect. You ARE a writer even when every phrase falls out of your mouth like chewing gum on sidewalk. You WILL be the author whose readers think of you as something to aspire to. You are a literary potato who will transform into a beautiful French fry.

So today, laugh a little at this meme, cry a little inside because you feel called out, and then get yourself a writing group. Or join the one I’m a part of. We host virtual bi-weekly Hit Refresh Write-ins on Wednesdays and Sundays. Sign up online or find more info here.
